Renaissance costumes + beheaded wives = hot?
Actually, yes! The lushness and decadence of Henry VIII's court is decidedly sexy, as are the starring actors, including Jonathan Rhys Meyers (above) and Henry Cavill.
The thing I like most about The Tudors is how adult it is. The dialogue, the history, the intrigues, the slow burning passions...are all way more grown-up than the typical sit-com that you can watch while the kids are in the room.
And yes, there are sex scenes. Brief but steamy, with literal bodice ripping and tasty glimpses of the king's naked lean body. I remember one particular scene, I think it was at the end of the last episode of the first season, when Henry and Anne have almost-sex in a shaded forest glen. I had to rewind and rewatch that one a couple of times, it was so good!
And, there's something about the doomed nature of Henry and Anne's love affair that makes it all the more exciting. These are people who live in the shadow of constant threat of death, dishonor, and destruction--and it makes them grab for love and sex with all the more passion.
Period drama with modern nudity.
Watchable with Husband?
Mine gets bored by the dialogue, but likes to be alerted when there are bare breasts on the screen.
Available Digitally?
YES. I've been watching it digitally through Netflix. Instant gratification makes me so happy.

I read this and checked my on demand situation. I can see season 3! And since I know the ending I bet I can hop into the middle...
